And Why Savvy Collectors Are Investing in Private Garage Spaces

If you’ve spent any time in Sarasota, you already know this isn’t your average Florida community. Between the world-class arts scene, the Gulf-front luxury, and a fiercely loyal base of year-round and seasonal residents, there’s a culture here that values the finer things, and that absolutely extends to automobiles.

Sarasota has quietly become one of the most vibrant car collecting communities on the Gulf Coast, and 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for auto enthusiasts in the area.

Sarasota Car Show Heaven: A Big Year on the Circle

The Sarasota Yacht Club and St. Armands Circle are both celebrating their 100-year anniversary in 2026 with a special “Century of Cars” Parade and Car Show. The event will feature 175 vehicles in total, with exhibitors on the circle dressed in period clothing to match the era of their car — making it one of the most unique and visually stunning automotive events ever staged in this region.

But the Sarasota centennial car show is just the headliner. The 28th annual Corvettes on the Circle returns to St. Armands Circle on Saturday, May 2nd, hosted by the Skyway Corvette Club of Sarasota-Bradenton. Proceeds benefit the Southwest Florida Honor Flight Network, which has sponsored over 35 local veterans to visit the nation’s capital over the past decade.

Later in the year, the Jaguar Festival d’Elegance celebrates its 40th anniversary on October 10th at St. Armands Circle Park, drawing some of the finest vintage and modern Jaguars in the Southeast.

Another notable ongoing offering are the Devereaux-Kaiser Car Shows which host multiple shows throughout the year to benefit the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund.

And for those who want a more casual monthly fix, Cars and Coffee on St. Armands Circle meets every third Saturday at Lynch’s Pub & Grub on the Boulevard of Presidents, and it's free, no registration required, with all makes and models welcome.

Another similarly named group called Sarasota Cars and Coffee also holds shows at the University Town Center that is free for spectators, but a $10 charity donation for show cars is requested.

Why Sarasota? Why Now?

The car collecting community here reflects the broader character of the region. Sarasota attracts successful retirees, entrepreneurs, and second-home owners who have both the means to collect seriously and the time to enjoy it. The mild climate is a huge draw as cars don’t rust here the way they do up North, making Southwest Florida an ideal place to store and drive prized vehicles year-round.

The annual calendar of shows, cruises, and Cars & Coffee meetups creates a genuine community of enthusiasts. Whether you’re into pristine Corvettes, exotic European machinery, or meticulously restored American classics, you’ll find your people here.

Ultra-Luxury & Exotic Dealerships 💎

The Sarasota area (including Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, and Venice) offers access to a strong network of high-end and ultra-luxury automotive brands.

  • Bentley Sarasota, located at 1518 State Street downtown, is a newly established franchise operated by the Dimmitt Automotive Group, expanding the region’s ultra-luxury footprint.

  • Lamborghini of Sarasota, on Clark Road, serves as the area’s official Lamborghini dealership, offering both new and pre-owned inventory.

  • For brands such as Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, McLaren, and Aston Martin, Sarasota buyers are typically served by nearby Tampa Bay dealerships—particularly those operated by Dimmitt Automotive Group—providing full access to these marques within a short drive.

The New Must-Have for Serious Collectors: A Private Garage Space

Here’s where things get really interesting for anyone thinking about the intersection of lifestyle and smart real estate.

Across the country, and increasingly in markets like Sarasota, a new real estate trend is gaining serious momentum: freestanding private garage condos for sale, often paired with a small office or lounge space. Think of it as a “man cave” or “she shed” that you actually own, in a secure community of fellow enthusiasts.

These aren’t storage units. They’re climate-controlled, custom-finished spaces where collectors can house, maintain, and enjoy their vehicles , and in many cases, socialize with neighbors who share the same passion. Some developments include amenities like shared car lifts, detailing bays, and club rooms.

For Sarasota-area collectors who may live in a condo, a deed-restricted community, or simply don’t have room at home for a proper garage, these spaces solve a real problem. And from an investment standpoint, demand is growing faster than supply in most Florida markets.

What to Look For in a Garage Condo

If you’re considering this type of purchase, here are a few key things to evaluate:

🚗 Climate control. Florida heat and humidity are the enemy of paint, interiors, and mechanical components. Full HVAC is non-negotiable for serious collectors.

🚘 Security. Look for gated access, individual unit security systems, and camera coverage throughout the facility.

🏎️ Ownership structure. A true condo purchase means you hold the deed and can sell, lease, or pass the space to heirs, unlike a standard rental storage unit.

🚙 Community. The best garage condo communities attract like-minded owners. That neighbor-to-neighbor culture is part of what makes these spaces so special.

A Perfect Storm for Collectors

Sarasota’s car culture, its growing base of affluent residents, and the limited availability of private garage space in most residential communities have created a perfect environment for this trend to take hold. If you’ve been thinking about protecting your collection properly, or just want a dedicated space to wrench, display, and enjoy your vehicles, now is a great time to explore what’s available in this market.
